Golf: The X-Factor Stretch and How to Hit Your Ball out of Sight.
You’re standing on the tee, staring down the fairway. It’s possible you’re only thinking about one thing. Perhaps two. How do you launch your ball into orbit? And how do you outdrive your golfing companions?
Luckily, research tells us the secret to getting those extra yards. It’s the X-factor stretch. It’s when you further increase the rotational difference between your hips and shoulders on the early downswing.
But there’s just one problem.
The moment you tell your hips and shoulders to do the X-factor stretch your swing unravels.
When you swing without telling yourself to do the X-factor stretch the electrical activity in the muscles that control your hips and shoulders are relatively quiet. But, the minute you consciously tell yourself to do the X-factor stretch, the activity in these muscles dramatically fires up.
This increased ‘noise’ of electrical activity in your motor system hampers your fine movement control. And with this your previously silky smooth swing goes out the window. And with it, your carry distance and accuracy.
Now this is pretty frustrating. To get those extra yards all you need to do is coordinate your hips and shoulders to produce the X-factor stretch. But the moment you instruct your mind to do this your golf swing falls apart.
So how do you overcome this classic ‘Catch-22’situation?
How do you take advantage of the X-factor stretch and yet, not engage your mind to coordinate the different rotations of your hips and shoulders?
The answer to this question and much more are in my ebook, Golf – A Fiendish and Unnatural Enterprise. How to Hit the Ball out of Sight. And be More Accurate. https://rogerwheller.com.au/product/golf-a-fiendish-and-unnatural-enterprise/
